Two new scholarships have been recently added, the Missouri AfterSchool Network, due on April 30th, and the Junior League of Springfield, due on March 25th.  

Scholarships 2015-16

All seniors should be receiving a flyer regarding financial aid workshops during parent teacher conference. Parents should call and schedule a time for them and their student to attend.
 

Show-Me Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society – The Show-Me Chapter offers a $2000 scholarship for a high school senior, or undergraduate, planning to major in conservation or a natural resources-related field.  This is an essay contest.  Information can be found at http://www.moswcs.org/scholarship/  Applications must be postmarked by November 30th

University of Missouri – There are many scholarships available to students applying to MU.  To meet the scholarship deadline of December 15, those interested in applying for scholarship should apply for admission by December 1.

Conservation Foundation of Missouri Scholarship – CFMO offers 5 - $1000 scholarships to high school seniors or undergraduates in different natural resources areas.  Preference will be given to those demonstrating financial need.  Applications must be submitted by December 31.  Information can be found on the website at http://www.moswcs.org/scholarship/

Missouri Sheriffs’ Association – The Missouri Sheriffs’ Association offer 16 - $1000 scholarship each year to college-bound Missouri high school seniors who intend to pursue a criminal justice career and will be attending a Missouri college or university.   To apply, visit www.mosheriffs.com and follow the scholarship link to learn more.  Application deadline is no later than January 31 of each year.

Citizens Memorial Healthcare Medical Excellence Scholarship - The Medical Excellence Scholarship was established in 1990 by Citizens Memorial Healthcare – Foundation. This scholarship was designed to help residents of our service area to achieve their dreams of working in a career in healthcare.  For more information, please visit the website at www.citizensmemorial.com  Deadline for application is February 28th.


Buick Achievers – We encourage the following to apply, High school seniors and current undergraduates, those who plan to enroll full time at a four-year college or university, those who plan to major in a specified course of study focused on engineering, technology or design, with an interest in the automotive industry.  Visit www.buickachievers.com Application dealine is February 29th.

Hickory County Farmers Mutual Insurance Company – Scholarship money is available.  Please click here.  Application must be received in the Hermitage office no later than March 1st.

Kansas City Associated Equipment Distributors – In our continuing effort to increase interest in the areas of Heavy Equipment and Diesel Engine Repair as a career, the Kansas City Associated Equipment Distributors has developed a scholarship for students with an interest in pursuing a post-secondary education in either of these fields.  Scholarship needs to be returned by March 1st.  Electronic applications may be obtained by emailing lstock@westerneda.com  or calling 816-561-5323

2016 Project 21 Scholarship Program – The Missouri Gaming Association is pleased to announce the 2016 Project 21 Scholarship Program.  The Project 21 Scholarship Program provides students an opportunity to disseminate their message by writing an article or creating a poster or video addressing the issue of underage gambling.  Two $1500 first prize scholarships and four $1000 second prize scholarships will be awarded.   Go to website for more details.   www.missouricasinos.org

MFA Foundation – This is a one-time $2000 scholarship.  The committee considers; the applicants interest in furthering his/her education by engaging in studies relating to agriculture or other fields of study that benefit rural life; the applicants participation and leadership in school, church and community activities; the applicant’s reputation for good citizenship and good moral character; the applicant’s financial need, sources of income and willingness to work; and the applicant’s satisfactory academic progress. Larry Weaver, Jr., Memorial Scholarship – Students must have a financial need, academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, have an ACT or SAT score, preference to members of the Buffalo Bible Baptist Church in regular attendance for the past six months;  if none, graduating seniors from missionaries’ families who are supported by Buffalo Bible Baptist Church.  Applications are due by March 15th to the Barbara Pyatt, PO Box 707, Buffalo, MO  65622 . Junior League of Springfield -   This scholarship is for young women.  The focus is community service, the ideal candidates will have exhibited leadership and involvement within their communities and beyond.  Application deadline is March 25th.  Send applications back to address on application.  For application, please print here.


Shewmaker Trust Scholarship – On behalf of the Jack Shewmaker Family Scholarship Trust, funds will be available to provide three scholarships to deserving seniors graduating from Buffalo High School this spring.  Applications must be turned in to the counselor’s office by March 30th.

Roy Scott Scholarship – This fund has been established to honor graduating seniors for good citizenship.  To recognize and reward seniors for good citizenship and to recognize and reward students who have contributed service to the community and participated in extracurricular activities of the school.  Applications must be turned in to the counselor’s office by March 30th

Bank of Urbana Good Citizen Scholarship - This $1500 scholarship is to honor a graduating senior for good citizenship and to recognize and reward a student who has contributed service to the community and extra-curricular activities of the school.  Requirements:  Any graduating senior who has:
 
            *Attended the last four consecutive years in the Buffalo School system
*Maintained grades necessary for admission to a post high school education
  (academic, such as college or university and/or vocational, such as trade schools)
*Actively participated during his or her high school years in two or more
  community organizations, I.e., church activities, boy scouts, girls scouts, etc. and 
  or two or  more school extra curricular activities, i.e., s ports, clubs, student
              government, etc.

Shelter Insurance – Shelter Insurance is pleased to offer one Shelter Insurance Foundation Scholarship to a Buffalo High School 2016 Senior.  Scholarship recipients are free to select any accredited college or university and any course of study they desire to pursue leading to an academic degree.  The scholarship will be paid directly to the college to apply to the tuition, fees, room and board of the student.  Applications may be obtained in the counselor’s office.  Scholarships must be turned in to the counselor’s office by March 30thStudent MUST attach a copy of their transcript to the application for the application to be complete.  Application may be obtained here.  Requirements may be obtained here.

The Hamels Foundation – This scholarship is for any Buffalo High School graduating senior with a desire to continue their education.  Winners will be determined by the Hamels Foundation.  Applications must be turned in by March 30th  to the counselor’s office.  The Hamels foundation is a non-profit organization founded by ’08 world Series MVP Pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies, Cole Hamels and his wife Heidi (Strobel) Hamels.  The Hamels Foundation believes education is the answer to poverty and supports programs in both the Philadelphia, PA and Springfield, MO areas in the USA.  It is also dedicated to helping Malawi’s one million orphans and victims of the AIDS/HIV virus.  A Primary School is currently underway in Malawi’s most impoverished area.  Please ask how you can be a sponsor!  This is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.

Buffalo Rotary Club Davis and Mallory Memorial Fund – This scholarship is to encourage scholars to appreciate the value of good citizenship and service to others through service organizations such as Rotary International and for other charitable purposes by providing an annual scholarship of at least $1500 to a graduating senior at Buffalo High School. Dr. Jerry Garrett Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Jerry Garrett, a 1958 graduate of Buffalo High School.  Selection Criteria is the following:

  • Have a preferences for further study in the areas of science and/or math​               Be in the upper 10% of the graduating class
  • Graduate in good standing from Buffalo High
  • Have good citizenship
  • Have attended Buffalo High for at least 2 years (Preference given to those graduates who have been in the Dallas Co. R-1 school system for a longer period of time
  • Be accepted to and attend a 4-year accredited college/university

American Veterans Scholarship – The local American Veterans will be giving away scholarships to graduating seniors.  This is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page hereThe last page after the transcript and ACT page, please include if applicable, information on a member of your family that has served in the military, you must add a 1 page essay on “What democracy means to you”.  Application deadline is March 30th.


Buffalo Area Kiwanis Club – This scholarship is open to any graduating senior.  Winner will be determined by the local Kiwanis Club.  Applications must be turned in by March 30th to the counselor’s office.

Mary McKown Scholarship – This scholarship was established by Mary McKown, who taught many years at Buffalo High School.  This scholarship is open to all seniors.  Application deadline is March 30th.  Applications must be turned in to the counselor’s office.

Dorotha Watkins Jacobsen Scholarship – One one time scholarships will be given.  This scholarship was established pursuant to the terms of Mrs. Jacobsen’s will.  The interest is used each year to award the scholarships and must be used at Missouri State University (MSU).  This scholarship is open to all seniors who are planning on attending MSU.  Application deadline is March 30th.  Applications must be turned in to the counselor’s office.  This is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.
 
D. A. Mallory Scholarship – Established in the 70’s in honor of Dillard A. Mallory, who was superintendent at BHS from the 1940’s to 1975.  This scholarship is open to all seniors.  Application deadline is March 30thThis is a generic application,

O’Bannon Bank – A $1500 scholarship will be offered to a Buffalo High School graduating senior.  Applications are open to all seniors. Applications may be printed here picked  turned in to the counselor’s office by March 30th. 
 
O’Bannon Bank Athletic Scholarship - Awarded to two  graduating seniors (one male and one female) for academic performance, good citizenship, and participation in any Buffalo High School athletic program. Applications may be printed here and  turned in to the counselor’s office by March 30th.  

School of Metaphysics Foundation Scholarship Program - Open to High School Students in Dallas and surrounding counties.  $500 to be awarded to the highest qualifying male and female student.  Applications may be obtained here.  Application deadline is March 30thTurn application in to the counselor’s office.

Jerry Don Sharp Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduate of Buffalo High School in memory of Jerry Don Sharp.  Selection Criteria is the following:
*Any student graduating from Buffalo High School.
*First preference will be given to a student majoring in Automotive Technology.
*This one-year scholarship will be distributed into two payments, the second half upon successful completion of the first semester and enrollment in a second semester.  In the event the recipient does not fulfill requirements, the scholarship will be forfeited to another recipient chosen by the family.  Applications must be turned in by March 30th  to the counselor’s office.  This is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.
 
Joyce Ray Scholarship – BHS seniors who are active members in Future Teachers of America and going into the education profession and be entering a college that offers an accredited educations program are eligible to apply for the scholarship.  Applicants must also exhibit good citizenship.  Applications must be turned in to the counselor’s office by March 30thThis is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.

Edward Maddux Memorial – This scholarship is in memory of Edward Maddux.  Edward cared a lot for the community and gave many hours of service to the organizations of Dallas County.  Students who are hard-working, care about the civic clubs and organizations of Dallas County and have proven service and volunteer history are encouraged to apply.  Applications must be turned in by March 30th  to the counselor’s office.  This is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.

Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce – Scholarship recipient will be a graduating senior from Buffalo High School.  The criteria for the scholarship is as follows:  Leadership, citizenship, responsibility, attendance, academics, etc.  For this scholarship, academic performance is not the only criteria.  This is a scholarship that gives recognition for leadership.  Applications are due March 30thThis is a generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.

Kenneth Nyberg Memorial Scholarship – The Kenneth Nyberg Memorial Scholarship will recognize a scholarship to a deserving Buffalo High School Senior who is pursuing a higher education degree in a health related field.  Applications must be turned in by March 30th,   to the counselor’s office.  Applications may be obtained here.

Long Lane Lions Club – If you attended Long Lane Elementary School and are a graduating senior of Buffalo High School you are eligible to apply for the Long Lane Lions Club Scholarship.  Applications must be turned in by March 30th  to the counselor’s office.  This is generic application, print cover page here, print application page here.


Missouri State Leadership Scholarship – Students must attend Missouri State University to be eligible for this scholarship.  The Leadership Scholarship is awarded at the discretion of each school within the Southwest Missouri District.  The scholarship is valued at $1000 for the academic year and is renewable in subsequent years if the recipient completes 30 credit hours each year and maintains a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average.  Recipients of the Buffalo High School may nominate 1 student for every 100 graduating seniors for this scholarship. This scholarship can be combined with the Provost, Deans’, Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders, Multicultural Leadership Recognition Award, Diversity in Education, Missouri State Advantage and Boys/Girls State scholarships up to a combined annual value of $3,500 and is chosen by the BHS Scholarship Committee.  Applications may be printed here.  Applications are due to the counselor’s office by March 30th.  

Roma and Edna Durington – This local scholarship is for any student who plans on attending Missouri State University.  Students must be an entering freshman from Buffalo High School.  Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential, and to leadership qualities.  Recipients must be enrolled in full-time (12 hrs).  Financial need also considered.  Applications must be turned in by March 30thto the counselor’s office.  This is generic application, print cover page here, print application page hereAfter your last page, the transcript and ACT, you MUST provide an acceptance letter from Missouri State University.

Bolivar Technical College – The Bolivar Technical College Scholarship Program will offer two scholarships annually to two senior students at Buffalo High School.  Interested students must complete and return applications to Bolivar Technical College post=marked no later than April 29, 2016.  For an application, please see Mrs. Cantrell.  Application deadline is April 29th.
